Prosecutor demands 8 years in prison for blogger over criticism of Uzbek train conditions

A citizen attempting to smuggle jewelry by concealing it in the genital area has been detained at the “Navoiy” customs border post in the Tashkent region, the Customs Department reported.

According to the Customs Committee’s Personal Security Department, acting on obtained intelligence and in cooperation with officers of the “Navoiy” customs border post, a citizen entering Uzbekistan through the post was subjected to a personal search after exhibiting suspicious behavior during customs inspection.

During the search, jewelry items weighing 314 grams were reportedly found concealed in the genital area. The total value of the seized jewelry, taken as material evidence, was estimated at 316 million UZS.

It was noted that pre-investigation checks are currently being carried out in connection with the case.

Earlier, a foreign citizen attempting to smuggle jewelry hidden inside underwear was reportedly detained at the “Qorasuv” customs border post of the Andijan region Customs Department.
