Uzbekistan has imposed a temporary ban on the import of mandarins and pineapples from China due to the regular detection of quarantine plant pests in these products, according to the Agency for Plant Quarantine and Protection.
It was reported that samples taken in accordance with established procedures from consignments of mandarins and pineapples imported from China were examined at the Central Phytosanitary Laboratory. Analysis results revealed the presence of quarantine pests such as the citrus whitefly (Dialeurodes citri Ashmead), the oriental citrus scale insect (Unaspis yanonensis Kuwana), and the pineapple mealybug (Dysmicoccus brevipes Cockerell). These harmful organisms were detected in nearly 20 consignments.
The national plant quarantine and protection authority of China was notified of the contaminated products, and the relevant information and documentation were submitted.
During the period of the ban, the issuance of quarantine permits for mandarins and pineapples planned for import from China has been temporarily suspended.
“This measure has been introduced on a temporary basis until the causes of the ban are eliminated, with the aim of preventing the entry and spread of potentially dangerous plant quarantine organisms into the territory of Uzbekistan,” the statement said.
It is worth noting that earlier Kazakhstan introduced a temporary ban on the import of eggs from third countries and from member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.
