Uzbekistan and China approve an agreement on the protection of confidential information

1706During the 58th plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on September 30, 2024, senators approved the law ratifying an intergovernmental agreement with China regarding the mutual protection of classified information. This development was reported by the Senate's press service.
The agreement, consisting of 19 articles, was signed on May 18, 2023, in the city of Xi’an during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to China. Uzbekistan has designated the State Security Service as the authorized body responsible for overseeing this agreement.
As stated in Article 15 of the document, the agreement will be effective for an indefinite period. It will come into force following the final notification of the completion of internal state procedures.
The agreement outlines the mutual protection of confidential information transmitted and received in various forms throughout the transaction. It addresses the levels of confidentiality as defined by national legislation, including the classification symbols ("highly important," "top secret," "confidential"). Furthermore, it clarifies issues related to the protection, transmission, and usage of confidential information.
