Reports of traffic congestion at the "Gishtkoprik" customs checkpoint between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan circulated widely on social media, sparking extensive discussions. The customs department of the Tashkent region responded to the situation.

The temporary suspension of operations at this checkpoint was due to the construction of a modern facility at the "Navoiy" border customs checkpoint of the Tashkent region's customs department. Consequently, traffic funneled to the "Gishtkoprik" border customs checkpoint.

According to reports, between 30,000 to 35,000 individuals and over 1,000 vehicles pass through the “Gishtkoprik” border customs checkpoint daily.

Reconstruction efforts are underway to expand the checkpoint, considering the increasing flow of individuals and vehicles annually. The Customs Department aims to complete the reconstruction by October of this year.

It's worth noting that the "Navoiy" border customs checkpoint's operations have been temporarily halted since December 1, 2022, due to modernization and reconstruction efforts. Consequently, reports of traffic congestion at the "Gishtkoprik" customs checkpoint have surfaced multiple times over the past year.
