Local

As of January 1, 2025, Uzbekistan has officially joined BRICS as a partner state, primarily aiming to strengthen its economic ties and access new markets. The country sees this partnership as a strategic opportunity for economic growth, according to Ahror Burkhanov, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

“BRICS is an influential and dynamic platform for multilateral cooperation. Most of its members are our traditional partners, and we primarily pursue economic interests. BRICS offers a vast market with significant opportunities, and deepening relations with its member states will contribute to improving the well-being of the Uzbek people,” Burkhanov stated.

The BRICS association, founded in 2006, currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia. During the BRICS summit held in Kazan on October 24, 2024, under Russia’s chairmanship, Uzbekistan was among 13 countries admitted as new partner states.

By strengthening its cooperation with BRICS economies, Uzbekistan aims to boost trade, attract investment, and integrate more deeply into global economic processes, positioning itself as an emerging player in international markets.
