18134Uzbekistan is ready to continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and to develop cooperation with Afghanistan in priority areas. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardar Umurzakov at a meeting with representatives of the current administration of Afghanistan – “Taliban”.
Yesterday 4 July, Sardar Umurzakov received a delegation led by the acting Minister of Industry and Trade of Afghanistan, Nuriddin Azizi.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the issues on the agenda of Uzbek-Afghan cooperation in the areas of investment, trade, transport, and logistics. Further actions related to joint initiatives in each of the above areas were agreed upon.
“It was agreed to prepare joint proposals to increase bilateral trade turnover and increase the volume of cargo transportation through the territories of the two countries. In order to study the potential of a mutually beneficial partnership, the prospects of joint work to establish direct links between the Uzbek and Afghan business communities were also noted.
Within the framework of the dialogue, the participants of the meeting considered measures to implement the project of the Trans-Afghan Railway “Termez - Mazar-i-Sharif - Kabul – Peshawar.” The practical aspects of organizing field studies along the railway lines in the second half of July this year were discussed.
The Uzbekistan side expressed its readiness to continue providing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and to develop cooperation with Afghanistan in priority areas”, - the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade said.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue constant communication to discuss and resolve current issues of Uzbek-Afghan relations.
