Rewards to be given to those who voluntarily surrender firearms

In Uzbekistan, individuals who voluntarily surrender firearms will be rewarded. This is provided for in the regulation “On the procedure for voluntarily surrendering unregistered weapons and their ammunition, main parts of firearms, explosives and explosive devices to internal affairs bodies, and rewarding those who surrender weapons and ammunition,” approved by the government decision “On improving the procedure for voluntarily surrendering unregistered weapons and their ammunition, main parts of firearms, explosives and explosive devices to internal affairs bodies, and rewarding those who surrender weapons and ammunition,” adopted on July 7 this year.

According to the regulation, an individual or the head of a legal entity will be considered to have voluntarily surrendered such items if:

• they decide to voluntarily surrender unregistered weapons and their ammunition, main parts of firearms, explosives and explosive devices;
• they personally submit a written or oral request to internal affairs bodies regarding the surrender of these items.

The applicant must apply to the internal affairs body at their place of residence or stay.

The weapon being surrendered by the applicant must be disassembled, its cartridges removed, and the weapon and its ammunition, main parts of firearms and other items must be placed in packaging that prevents them from being seen by unauthorized persons.

The regional technical commission will adopt one of the following decisions:

• to award or refuse to award a monetary reward;
• to grant or refuse to grant the preferential right to purchase a firearm and its ammunition.

Monetary rewards for voluntarily surrendered weapons and ammunition will be issued on the basis of orders by the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the heads of the Tashkent city and Tashkent regional main departments of internal affairs, and the heads of regional departments of internal affairs.

Earlier, it was reported that two citizens in Tashkent had voluntarily handed over firearms and ammunition belonging to their late relatives to law enforcement agencies.
