7745On October 9, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the master plan for the future development of Tashkent.
The city, which currently covers 43,822 hectares and has a population of over 3 million, is expected to significantly expand, with plans laid out for its development up to 2045.
This master plan was initially presented to the president in 2022 and has since been refined with contributions from companies in Singapore, Great Britain, Turkey, Germany, China, and the Netherlands.
The updated plan divides Tashkent into three key zones. Conservation Zone: Protects cultural heritage buildings, historical sites, and green areas. Reconstruction Zone: Allows for additional constructions based on city plans. Renovation Zone: Replaces old houses and buildings with new structures.
"Rising environmental and traffic issues are critical, with Tashkent’s air temperature increasing by 1 degree over the past decade, and pollutants occasionally exceeding acceptable levels.
To address these concerns, green areas within and around the city will be tripled to 25,000 hectares, increasing the green space per resident from 3 to 6 square meters," President Mirziyoyev noted.
In addition to environmental improvements, the master plan also aims to ensure residents can access key services like schools, hospitals, and shops within 15 minutes. Public transport networks will be expanded, with new roads and Metrobus routes planned.
The plan also takes into account the current strain on the city's electricity, water, and sewage infrastructure and proposes solutions for increasing capacity.
Once approved, the master plan will be publicly accessible on the Urban Planning Cadastre’s geoinformation system and the Tashkent city administration's website.
Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to transform Tashkent into a metropolis that can accommodate at least 7.5 million people with favorable living and working conditions. He also directed the development of surrounding districts—Qibray, Zangiota, Urtachirchik, Urtachirchik, and others—into a cohesive agglomeration with the capital.
