15612Tashkent, June 4, 2023 - A devastating flood struck the "Junarik" neighborhood in the Sergeli district of Tashkent yesterday, affecting nine residential houses and three production enterprises. The Tashkent city administration's Press Service confirmed the incident.
According to reports, immediate action was taken to investigate and resolve the situation by the Department of Canals Utilization and Area Improvement, in collaboration with the Department of Emergency Situations of Tashkent city. Thanks to the prompt response of these departments, the flood was successfully brought under control. To combat the flooding, a total of nine specialized equipment units, seven water pumping devices, two plumbers from the "Tashkent City Water Supply" enterprise, and two plumbers from the Department of Canal Utilization and Area Improvement were mobilized.
Further investigation revealed that the Bozsuv Irrigation Systems Department of Tashkent Region had failed to inform the Administration of Canals Utilization and Adjacent Areas of Tashkent City, as well as the Emergency Situations Departments, about the diversion of the Jon Canal, which passes through the "Jonariq" MFY of the Sergeli District and Chilonzor District. The flooding was attributed to the closure of water intake facilities in Chasi along the Borijar canal, for reasons unknown, and the subsequent full opening of the Salar canal.
The affected residents and business owners are now faced with the daunting task of recovering from the damages caused by the flood. The Tashkent city administration has promised to provide necessary support and assistance to those affected.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of coordination and communication among relevant departments to prevent such incidents in the future. Efforts will be made to strengthen the oversight and cooperation between the Bozsuv Irrigation Systems Department and the Administration of Canals Utilization and Adjacent Areas, ensuring the safety and well-being of the neighborhoods surrounding the canals.
As the affected residents start rebuilding their lives, the incident serves as a reminder of the need for proper infrastructure maintenance and effective communication between relevant authorities to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
