More than 2 billion sums will be allocated to prevent road accidents in Tashkent, according to a resolution adopted by the Tashkent city mayor on May 20.

As stated in the resolution titled “Allocation of Funds,” 2.044 billion sums will be directed to district improvement departments from the Tashkent City Development Fund. These funds will be used to cover expenses related to road safety measures, based on the approved address list.

Of the total amount, 1.456 billion sums will be used to install metal fences along streets and roads to reduce pedestrian-related accidents. An additional 588 million sums will be allocated to organize pedestrian crossings, with a particular focus on preventing accidents involving minors. A total of 5,600 meters of metal fencing will be installed across the city.

Convex pedestrian crossings will be constructed in 42 locations throughout the capital. These include:

- 6 in Almazar district
- 5 each in Shaykhantohur, Yunusobod, Sergeli, and Mirabod districts
- 4 in Bektemir district
- 3 each in Yashnobod and Chilonzor districts
- 2 each in Mirzo Ulugbek, Yakkasaroy, and Yangihayot districts

Reports detailing the use of the allocated funds and the scope of completed work will be submitted to the Tashkent City Council of People's Deputies and the Tashkent City Government.

It is worth recalling that earlier in 2024, a total of 9,364 road accidents were reported across Uzbekistan, resulting in 2,203 deaths and injuries to 8,901 people. Most of these accidents were attributed to citizens ignoring legal responsibilities and violating traffic regulations.
