A government official who accepted a $1,500 bribe has been detained in the Tashkent region. The State Security Service (SSS) reported the incident.
According to the SSS, the operation was carried out jointly with the Tashkent Regional Department of the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes. During the operation, the chief legal advisor of the Akhangaron district government was caught red-handed while receiving $1,500. He allegedly accepted the money in exchange for registering a house located in the “Eyvalek” mahalla citizens’ gathering area — a property listed on the khokimiyat’s balance sheet — in the name of a citizen through his acquaintances holding senior positions.
“The chief legal advisor, despite having previous convictions, failed to draw appropriate conclusions,” the report noted.
A criminal case has been initiated against the official under Article 168, Part 3, Clause “c” (fraud), and Article 28,211, Part 1 (bribery) of the Criminal Code. An investigation is currently underway.
It is worth noting that earlier, lawyers were detained in Tashkent and the Surkhandarya region for taking 3,700 US dollars and 60 million soums from clients.
