4-year-old girl dies after brutal beating by mother in Tashkent

A 4-year-old girl, who had been severely beaten by her mother in Chirchik, Tashkent region, passed away on January 7. The child’s death follows a violent incident that left her with serious injuries.  

Surayyo Rakhmonova, the Children’s Ombudsman, confirmed the girl’s death and noted that an investigation is ongoing. The case is being thoroughly examined, with the final legal conclusion set to be issued by the court.  

Rakhmonova explained that the girl, identified as Y.M., born in 2020, died in the morning of January 7. Due to the change in the case—specifically the victim's death—the legal assessment will be adjusted accordingly, leading to the requalification of the crime to a more severe charge.  

On December 23, 2024, Y.M. was admitted to the Bostanlik district medical association in Tashkent with multiple injuries. Investigations revealed that her mother, a 47-year-old woman, had brutally beaten her daughter, causing severe harm. Medical reports confirmed that the child suffered a closed head injury, a severe concussion, and other significant head trauma.  

Following the incident, the Chirchik city police department launched a criminal investigation against the mother, E.Y., on December 27, 2024, under Part 7, Part 1, Article 126 of the Criminal Code, which addresses domestic violence.
