A mother in Tashkent has been charged with inhumanely treating her minor child, according to the city’s main department of internal affairs.

The incident, which occurred in February of this year, involved a woman born in 1997 physically abusing her child, born in 2020, in their Shaikhontohur district apartment. Footage of the abuse circulated on social media, sparking widespread outrage.

In response, the Investigative Department of the DIA of the Shaikhontohur district initiated a criminal case under Article 110 (Torture) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

"Investigative actions are ongoing, and a legal decision will be made upon completion," the report stated.

This follows a previous incident in the Shavat district of the Khorezm region, where a woman also abused her child in anger directed at her husband.
