46972Eight imam-khatibs and ten deputy imams working in mosques across Tashkent have been dismissed from their positions, while two imam-khatibs and two deputy imams have been disciplined. This was announced today, September 11, by Mufti Sheikh Nuriddin Khaliqnazarov, Chairman of the Office of Muslims of Uzbekistan, during a critical analytical meeting of Tashkent city imams.
The meeting addressed concerns about some imams not taking their primary duties seriously, failing to adequately meet the needs of believers, and lacking executive discipline. The action was taken against those who did not adhere to established procedures, labor contract requirements, and job instructions.
Earlier reports indicated that an individual involved in stealing from mosques in Tashkent was sentenced to six years in prison.
