Was mosque imam beaten in Kashkadarya? (video)

On April 6, a video circulated on social media claiming that an imam-khatib at the “Xitoy” mosque in Muborak district of Kashkadarya region had been assaulted by three or four individuals. The regional Department of Internal Affairs later issued a statement regarding the incident.

During the investigation, it was established that the person identified in the video as the “imam-khatib” was in fact a citizen, identified as J., who had gone to the mosque to perform prayers. According to the report, at around 1:40 p.m. on April 3, an altercation broke out between J. and two other individuals at the mosque. As a result of the incident, J. sustained minor injuries.

The statement said that the Investigation Unit under the Muborak district Department of Internal Affairs has opened a criminal case against S. and E. under Part 2 of Article 277 of the Criminal Code, and investigative actions are currently under way.

Earlier, it was reported that a 57-year-old man had been brutally beaten in the middle of a street in Tashkent.
