Construction of the Tashkent-Samarkand toll highway is set to begin in 2024, with construction of the Tashkent-Andijan road to commence in 2026. This timeline was established in the Presidential Decree "On Measures to Develop Public-Private Partnership in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2024-2030," which was adopted on August 30 this year.

According to the decree, measures for implementing priority public-private partnership projects in 2024-2026 and the program for projects to be executed through public-private partnership in 2024-2030 were approved. To facilitate convenient and rapid traffic between major cities, at least 1,000 kilometers of modern toll highways are to be constructed and modernized.

For reference, the Tashkent-Samarkand toll road construction project was developed in December 2023. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development allocated $350,000 in grant funds for the development of the project's initial technical and economic documentation. The project will adhere to international standards, featuring a 6-lane highway extending 305 kilometers. New bridges and overpasses will be constructed over all junctions and structures, and an intelligent transport system will be installed. The Tashkent-Andijan toll road will connect Tashkent and other regions with the Fergana Valley. The project covers a total length of 314 kilometers and has a cost of $4.65 billion.

It should be noted that earlier reports revealed the estimated cost of constructing the Tashkent-Andijan toll road, with more than $2 billion expected to be spent on the project.
