10065The government has temporarily suspended the relocation of the "Tashkent" International Airport "Tashkent" named after Islam Karimov, outside the city. This was announced by Rano Jurayeva, chairman of the board of "Uzbekistan Airports", during the press conference held on 17 February. A QALAMPIR.UZ correspondent who participated in the conference reported on this.
In June 2022, Rano Jurayeva said that the President and the government were discussing the feasibility of moving the "Tashkent" International Airport outside the city.
According to the chairman of the board of "Uzbekistan Airports", there is currently no intent to relocate the airport.
"For now, the project has been temporarily suspended by the government. There is no definite solution to this issue," - Jurayeva said.
She said that it is not possible to build new runways.
"Currently, we are doing everything to support the growth of the passenger flow to Tashkent. Therefore, we have to quickly build a terminal for 2400 passengers per hour by the end of this year. With a single facade, arrivals and departures were in the same place, so we will move the catering to another place. Of course, all this will be enough for us until 2027," - she said.
It was noted at the conference that 2115.1 billion soms were invested in order to modernize the current Tashkent International Airport in 2021 and 2022, including the development of information technologies and the establishment of a regional air carrier based on the low-cost model. It is planned to invest 2394.8 billion soms in 2023.
In addition, "Uzbekistan Airports" is gradually updating the fleet of outdated special equipment at the airports. In 2021, 48 pieces of special equipment were purchased for $5.2 million, and in 2022, 112 pieces of special equipment were purchased for $14.5 million. In 2023, airports need to upgrade 199 pieces of special equipment at a cost of $42.7 million.
