The first stage of a major reconstruction project at the Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport has been completed, and the newly renovated right wing of the arrivals hall is now operational, Uzbekistan Airports has announced.
As part of the renovation, the total area of the arrivals hall has been expanded. A new vehicle and bus lane has been constructed, along with a 120-space parking lot and a landscaped green area. The expanded building facade has increased the hall's area by 2,100 square meters. As a result, the customs zone has been enlarged, an additional baggage carousel has been installed, and for the first time, a 120-seat area for welcomers has been created inside the terminal.
In addition, a new short-term parking lane adjacent to the hall has been opened. This allows taxis, private cars, and buses to drop off passengers, with a permitted waiting time of 10 minutes, similar to the existing drop-off zone at the departure hall.
The second phase of the reconstruction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. It includes the installation of another baggage conveyor belt and the expansion of the waiting area with cafes, shops, and other services.
In the final phase, the arrival and departure halls will be unified into a single terminal complex. Once complete, the terminal’s total area will exceed 10,000 square meters, with a throughput capacity of up to 2,400 passengers per hour.
It is worth noting that recently, Sariosiyo Airport in Surkhandarya Region resumed operations after a 30-year hiatus and welcomed its first flight.
