Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan national team players underwent strict checks in the United States. Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent an inquiry to the U.S. side regarding the incident, ministry press secretary Omonulla Fayziyev told QALAMPIR.UZ.
According to him, in connection with the incident involving the football players, contact was established with relevant U.S. agencies through Uzbekistan’s Consulate General in New York, and an official explanation of the situation was requested.
“While we understand that any security measures are carried out in accordance with states’ internal rules, we believe it is important that such procedures do not undermine the spirit of sporting events, including mutual respect and friendly relations,” the Foreign Ministry press secretary said.
Earlier, Uzbekistan national team head coach Fabio Cannavaro also commented on the incident.
