Corruption is very strong in Uzbekistan.  Medicine and public education steal billions of allocated funds.  This was stated by president of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a video-conference on 19 April.

In the video-conference, Shavkat Mirziyoyev strictly warned the heads of the regions due to the growing corruption.

“Who appointed an assistant governor who takes bribes without working even at least three months? I want to warn all district and city governors (khokims) and their first deputies, state representatives. There is no place among us for executives who confuse people and do not understand their value.  If they are involved in bribery, they should all be punished by law.”-the head of the state said

The president also noted that the money allocated from the state budget is not being directed to the planned sector.

"We distribute the money, but the funds are not reaching their destination.  I gave the order to the Attorney General and he analyzed it.  We have seen where corruption thrives – billions of dollars are stolen by medicine and public education sectors.  I am tormented by the question whether there are heads in this «district», – said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
