The Chinese online marketplace Temu has officially registered as a legal entity and resident of Uzbekistan. This was announced by the press service of the Tax Committee.

“Temu marketplace is now registered as a legal entity and resident of the Republic of Uzbekistan. However, there are still issues to be discussed regarding its activities in previous periods. Negotiations are currently underway,” the report states.

The process is expected to conclude soon, after which a final decision regarding Temu’s operations will be announced.

As of March 9, Temu ranked 35th among the most downloaded apps for Uzbek users on the Play Market. By March 10, it had dropped out of the top 50. During the same period, ChatGPT claimed the top spot as the most downloaded app.

Similarly, on March 9-10, Temu did not appear in the top 50 apps on the App Store. In contrast, just a month earlier, on February 11, Temu was the most downloaded app in Uzbekistan on both the Play Market and App Store, holding the number one position in both stores.

Previously, Kamronbek Muhammadiyev, Head of the E-commerce Department at the National Agency for Advanced Projects, stated that the agency was ready to assist Temu in officially entering the Uzbek market and ensuring the protection of its legal business rights. However, he noted that Temu had not expressed interest in this process at the time. Muhammadiyev also warned that if the platform failed to meet the requirements, its operations could be suspended or even blocked.

Later, it was announced that starting from March 20, access to the Temu platform would be restricted by Uzbekistan’s legal requirements. However, with its recent registration as a local entity, Temu will now be able to continue its operations in compliance with national legislation.
