In Jarkorgan district, Surkhandarya region, a school principal was sentenced to four years in prison for accepting a $400 bribe from a teacher. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The incident involved a 46-year-old resident of the “Bobur” neighborhood, who had been serving as the principal of the district’s 5th general education school since 2022. Earlier this year, the principal informed a Russian language teacher that their teaching hours would be reduced due to the arrival of a new teacher. To avoid the reduction, the principal demanded $400 from the teacher and instructed them not to disclose the matter to their spouse or relatives.

The teacher reported the incident to the relevant authorities. On February 1, 2025, a joint operation was conducted by the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Surkhandarya Regional Department of Internal Affairs. During the operation, the principal was caught red-handed receiving $400, equivalent to 5.2 million UZS, as material evidence.

On April 3, the Jarkorgan District Criminal Court found the principal guilty under Article 210, Section 1 of the Criminal Code (Bribery). The court sentenced the principal to four years of imprisonment and restricted their right to hold official positions for two years.

Previously, in Urgut district, Samarkand region, another school principal was sentenced to ten years in prison for engaging in the sale of narcotics.
