Mother arrested for attempting to sell her baby for 62 million sums in Surkhandarya

A woman was arrested in the Jarkurgan district of Surkhandarya region for attempting to sell her child, according to Aziz Obidov, press secretary of the Supreme Court.
The 36-year-old mother of six children allegedly tried to sell her seven-day-old infant in exchange for money.
Law enforcement officials detained the woman after she was found in possession of 62 million sums, which she had accepted for the transaction.
The court convicted the woman under Article 135, Part 3, Subparagraph “a” of the Criminal Code, which addresses human trafficking. She was sentenced to three years in prison.
This incident follows a similar case in Surkhandarya, where a mother was previously arrested for attempting to sell her child born in 2024.
