The United States Department of Labor has announced that millions of dollars in funds allocated to "increase transparency" in the Uzbekistan cotton industry will no longer be allocated. US Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer announced this in a video message on her social media page on March 21.

In her video message, she wrote that the US had allocated more than $38 million for recent programs, and that even American taxpayers were not aware of this.

“Last week, the Department cut more than $38 million in foreign aid grants and cut several grants. I’m sure you didn’t know that your hard-earned tax dollars were being used to improve transparency and accountability in the cotton industry in Uzbekistan, advance climate change policies in Brazil and Colombia, support collective bargaining in Indonesia and Guatemala, and monitor progress on labor standards in the Democratic Republic of the Congo,” said Lori Chavez-DeRemer.

That’s why the Secretary of Labor has expressed his support for the policies being promoted by US President Donald Trump, saying that other countries will no longer be “slapped in the face.”

“From day one, I have made it my top priority at the Department of Labor to put American workers first. At President Trump’s direction, we have wasted no time in doing our job. Simply put, we are eliminating programs that put America last. I have directed my team at the Department of Labor to identify more opportunities to save you money. I will continue to fight to put American workers first by eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse, and to ensure those dollars are returned to our workforce,” the US Secretary of Labor promised.

Recall that earlier, Donald Trump ordered the closure of the agency that oversees Radio Free Europe and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Voice of America. In response, both media outlets sued the Trump administration.
