Former Minister Aziz Voitov’s case under review in court for seven months

11284On March 18, Abdurakhmon Tashanov, Chairman of the Human Rights Society "Ezgulik," announced that the appeal trial in the case of former Minister of Agriculture Aziz Voitov has commenced at the Tashkent City Criminal Court.
QALAMPIR.UZ reached out to Aziz Obidov, press secretary of the Supreme Court, to clarify the verdict of the first-instance court. However, according to the Supreme Court representative, this information is incorrect.
"The case of Aziz Voitov began in the first-instance court in September. The trial is still ongoing and has not yet concluded," Obidov stated.
For reference, Aziz Voitov faces charges under multiple articles of the Criminal Code, including Article 167 (embezzlement or misappropriation), Part 3, Subparagraphs “a” and “c”; Article 205 (abuse of power or official authority), Part 2, Subparagraph “a”; Article 206 (exceeding official authority), Part 2, Subparagraph “a”; and Article 209 (forgery).
According to the investigative body’s indictment, the defendants in the case are accused of offenses under Articles 167, 168, 184, 185-2, 189, 205, 206, 28, 209, 211, 228, and 243 of the Criminal Code. Preventive measures were imposed on 29 defendants in the form of arrest, 15 were released on bail, and 6 were placed under written pledges of good conduct.
The first-instance trial began on August 15, 2024, at the Mirabad District Court for Criminal Cases. Due to the extensive scope of the case and the large number of participants, it was decided that the proceedings would be held behind closed doors.
