Car sinks into a canal with its passengers in Syrdarya

The driver of a Nexia-2 and four passengers drowned in a canal in the Syrdarya region, according to the Regional Internal Affairs Department's information service.

The incident occurred on June 17 at 1:00 p.m. The Nexia-2 lost control while driving over the "Janubiy Mirzachol" canal bridge, which connects the Mirzo Ulugbek and Nurobod neighborhoods in Shirin city. The car veered off course, collided with the bridge girders, and fell into the canal. As a result, the driver and four passengers drowned at the scene.

The bodies of the driver and three passengers, along with the car, were recovered from the canal by divers from the Regional Emergency Situations Department. The search for the remaining passenger is ongoing.

A criminal case has been opened by the Investigative Department of the regional Internal Affairs Office under Article 266, Part 3, Clause "a" of the Criminal Code, and the investigation is in progress.

Earlier, it was reported that 11 people had drowned in the Syrdarya at the same time.
