Javohir Sindorov falls to Caruana, sets clash with Carlsen

The semi-finals of the prestigious Freestyle Chess Grand Slam tournament in Weissenhaus, Germany, have concluded.

Uzbek chess player Javohir Sindorov, who was set to face American grandmaster Fabiano Caruana for a spot in the final, lost to his opponent in a tie-break and will now compete for 3rd place.

After the main games ended in a draw, Sindorov initially gained the upper hand in the first tie-break round. However, the American grandmaster turned the tables in the subsequent game. Caruana secured victory in the Armageddon game and advanced to the final.

Sindorov will now face the legendary Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen in the 3rd place match. Notably, this will be their second encounter in the tournament, with Sindorov having the upper hand in their first meeting.

Meanwhile, another Uzbek chess player participating in the tournament, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, earned the opportunity to compete for 5th place. He defeated Alireza Firouzja from France. Abdusattorov will now face American grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura in the match for 5th place.
