The North Sokh underground gas storage facility in Fergana can be restarted.  President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this at a meeting held in Andijan yesterday, 1 February.  This was reported by UzA.

“Unfortunately, the underground gas storage facility in Sokh was closed due to various reasons.  During a state visit to Kyrgyzstan, we also agreed on this issue with Sadir Japarov.  Recently, our energy minister will go to Kyrgyzstan and agree on the technical aspects,” said the President.

In addition, the Minister of Energy, Jorabek Mirzamahmudov, gave information about this issue and said that if the facility is put into operation, it will be possible to supply the valley with 13 million cubic meters of gas every day.

“The volume of the North Sokh underground gas storage facility is approximately 2.5-3 billion cubic meters.  Of this, 1.3 billion cubic meters of gas can be used, and the rest is in the buffer zone.  This means that we will be able to supply the valley with 13 million cubic meters of gas every day during the winter season.  The main gas storage part of this facility is located on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, and the compressors are located on the territory of Uzbekistan.  For this reason, negotiations are conducted on the general use of the facility.  First of all, the working group will study all technical and economic aspects in detail.  As the building has not been used for many years, we need to thoroughly study its current condition.  After that, the terms will be agreed upon.  Maybe it will be on the basis of the right of lease, but it is too early to say anything at the moment,” said the Minister of Energy.
