President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has departed for Switzerland on a working visit to take part in the signing ceremony of the charter of the “Peace Council,” which is being organized in Davos at the initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump. The visit is taking place at the invitation of the American leader, the press service of the Uzbek president reported.

It is noted that Uzbekistan had earlier accepted the proposal to join the council as a founding state.

In a letter addressed to the U.S. president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated that the initiative is viewed as an important step toward resolving long-standing conflicts in the Middle East and ensuring peace and stability across the wider region.

It should be recalled that earlier reports said the signing ceremony of the Peace Council charter would take place in Davos. According to the draft charter, Donald Trump will serve as the council’s first chair and will personally decide on inviting new members. To obtain permanent membership status, countries are required to pay a contribution of at least $1 billion during the first year.

According to Bloomberg, such financial conditions have surprised many world leaders and prompted sharp criticism. While the council was initially conceived to oversee the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, the text of the charter suggests broader and more global ambitions for the initiative, potentially positioning it as an alternative to the United Nations. Some proposed participants have expressed concern that, as chair, Trump could gain sole control over the organization’s funds.
