4571Today, on October 2, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Sani, held talks with the participation of the official delegations of the two countries at the 'Amiri Diwan' complex in Doha. This was reported by the President's press service.
Mirziyoyev thanked Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Sani for his invitation to Qatar and the hospitality shown to the delegation of Uzbekistan.
Issues of further strengthening of political dialogue, expansion of trade-economic, investment cooperation, and activation of cultural-humanitarian exchange were considered.
"It was noted that the historic visit of the Emir of Qatar to Samarkand in June this year marked the beginning of a new stage in the relations between our countries. A firm desire was expressed to bring the cooperation between Uzbekistan and Qatar to a higher level of strategic partnership," the press service of the President said.
It is noted with satisfaction that dialogues at various levels were activated at the meeting.
It is reported that air flights have been established between the capitals of the two countries, and the volume of mutual trade is increasing. Joint projects with major Qatari companies have started. On the eve of the visit, the Embassy of Uzbekistan was opened in Doha.
"The parties expressed their readiness to double the trade indicators, implement joint investment projects in traditional and 'green' energy, petrochemicals, deep processing of metals, construction, tourism, finance, and other fields," the report said.
Also, during the negotiations, it was proposed to hold the first meetings of the joint Intergovernmental Commission, the Business Council, and the business forum in Doha in January 2024 to activate business relations.
It was noted that Uzbekistan is interested in deepening cooperation with Qatar's scientific and educational institutions, conducting joint research in biotechnologies and artificial intelligence, 'green' energy. It was agreed to hold the week of culture and tourism of Uzbekistan in Doha.
On the other hand, current issues of global and regional importance were also discussed during the negotiations. For example, the importance of supporting the practical promotion of the Trans-Afghan railway construction project was noted. The parties agreed on the importance of continuing to provide humanitarian aid to the Afghan people to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
"At the end of the meeting, the heads of state instructed to prepare a number of joint 'roadmaps' and create mechanisms for the effective implementation of the agreements reached," the report said.
After the negotiations, a significant set of documents aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation was signed.
