Shavkat Mirziyoyev expresses condolences over the death of Kallibek Kamalov

Earlier, it was reported that prominent statesman and public figure Kallibek Kamalov had passed away. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his condolences, the presidential press service reported.

Kamalov was born on March 18, 1926, in the Takhtakupir district of Karakalpakstan. After finishing secondary school and completing military service, he graduated from Nukus State University in 1955. He began his career as secretary of the youth committee in Karakalpakstan and later served as Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Chairman of the Nukus City Executive Committee.

Kamalov also held senior posts as Minister of Public Utilities, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, and Secretary of the Karakalpak Party Committee.

From 1959 to 1963, he served as Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, and from 1963 to 1984 as First Secretary of the regional party committee, where he contributed to the region’s socio-economic development and modernization across multiple sectors.

He also worked as a diplomat from 1984 to 1986.

“In the course of his many years of dedicated service, he earned deep respect for his knowledge, leadership, personal qualities and devotion to the country. Under his leadership, significant efforts were made to develop Karakalpakstan, improve agriculture, industry and living standards despite challenging climatic conditions,” the condolence message said.

In recent years, Kamalov served as chairman of the Council of Elders of Karakalpakstan, supporting senior citizens and promoting social harmony and patriotism among young people.

He was awarded the Shuhrat Medal and the El-Yurt Hurmati Order for his service to the state and people.

“The memory of this outstanding statesman, mentor to the young and sincere, humble person will remain in our hearts,” the condolence message said.
