On March 1, in the Nurobod district of Samarkand region, a baby was born in the restroom of a local hospital and fell into the toilet pit. The incident was reported by Eldor Muhammadiev, the press secretary of the regional health department.

According to Muhammadiev, the woman gave birth to the baby but, due to weakness and carelessness, accidentally dropped the newborn into the toilet pit. A doctor who heard the baby's cries sought help from the prevention inspectors of the nearby district police department. The baby remained trapped in the pit for two hours. After lengthy efforts, law enforcement officers dug through the back of the restroom and rescued the baby.

Sardor Safarov, the prevention inspector who rescued the baby, shared the details in an interview with "Mening yurtim" TV channel.

"As we dug the hole, we could no longer hear the baby's cries. Then all the officers dug together, as the ground was hard due to the mountainous area. All the officers were ready to enter, but since the hole was small, I went in. The baby was lying on its side, with its legs and arms frozen and motionless. We took the baby out and immediately handed it over to the nurses for first aid," he explained.

The baby was taken to the central hospital in Nurobod district around noon on the same day. According to Eldor Muhammadiev, the baby is currently in satisfactory condition and is being cared for in a special intensive care unit under constant medical supervision.

The baby, weighing 3.7 kg, was born to a mother who was unaware she was pregnant with her fifth child until the delivery. The woman had come to the hospital complaining of health issues and only discovered she was giving birth when it happened. The baby is to be named after the police officer who saved its life.

This unusual incident highlights a common issue in Uzbekistan: the inadequate condition of public restrooms and their failure to meet sanitary standards.

In recent times, there have been several negative incidents related to restrooms. Similar cases have occurred where young children have fallen into restroom pits. Notably, on May 13, 2024, a two-year-old child in the Zangiota district of Tashkent region fell into a roughly five-meter deep toilet pit in their yard. On July 25, a similar incident occurred with a one-year-old child in Yangihayot district, Tashkent city. On October 17, another one-year-old girl fell into a toilet pit in Tashkent region, followed by a similar incident involving a one-year-old girl in Andijan region on October 31.
