Prosecutor detained in Samarkand with nearly $24,000 in bribes

The deputy prosecutor of Urgut district in Samarkand region was detained with bribes totaling nearly $24,000. The State Security Service reported this.
According to the report, the unlawful actions of the deputy prosecutor of Urgut district were exposed during operational-search measures carried out by the Samarkand regional department of the State Security Service in cooperation with the Prosecutor General’s Office’s Department of Internal Security and the regional prosecutor’s office.
In particular, while working at the Pastdargom district prosecutor’s office, the official used his position to reduce the amount of damage caused to the state by a local LLC’s illegal use of natural gas from 2.887 billion soums to 805.9 million soums. In return, he received a bribe of $6,500 and 35 million soums through intermediaries.
He did not stop there. As part of a criminal case opened by the prosecutor’s office against officials of the LLC under Article 169 of the Criminal Code, he demanded $15,000 from the owner of the LLC, promising to reduce the amount of damage to 150-200 million soums and help secure a lighter sentence through his acquaintances in the courts.
Physical evidence related to the prosecutor’s illegal actions was documented in procedural order. A criminal case has been opened against him, and custody has been applied as a preventive measure. Preliminary investigative actions are currently underway.
Earlier, it was reported that during operational measures in Tashkent city and Andijan region, a chief cadastral inspector who received a bribe and a citizen who illegally sold a land plot were detained.
