Woman abandons 7-month-old baby in Samarkand, leaves note

A distressing incident has come to light in the Loyish Mahalla of the Akdarya district, Samarkand region, where a woman abandoned her 7-month-old child on the street with a note. The note, which was found in the child’s pocket, read: "His name is Odilbek, 7 months old, please adopt him, I’m going abroad."

According to the Children’s Ombudsman, the woman left the baby on the street, hidden herself, and fled the scene. The local police department is currently conducting a preliminary investigation into the abandonment.

The baby was found with a blanket and a few pieces of clothing and was promptly placed in a district orphanage for infants, where he is receiving proper care. Authorities have identified the woman, who resides in the Syrdarya region. Legal action is now underway regarding her abandonment of the child.

The Children’s Ombudsman has assured that further information will be provided as the investigation continues.

It is worth noting that this follows another similar case earlier this year in Kashkadarya, where a woman who attempted to sell her 3-day-old baby was sentenced to two years in prison.
