Saida Mirziyoyeva meets WHO chief in Samarkand

On April 21, Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva held a meeting with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, on the sidelines of an international forum on combating drug threats taking place in Samarkand. Mirziyoyeva shared details of the meeting on her Telegram channel.

According to the report, the parties discussed key issues related to further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Health Organization. Particular attention was given to healthcare reforms underway in Uzbekistan, improving the efficiency of digital medicine, enhancing regulation of the pharmaceutical market, and expanding regional cooperation.

During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on strengthening collaboration with the World Health Organization in the treatment and rehabilitation of people affected by drug addiction.

For reference, a global forum titled “Combating Transnational Drug Threats: Health, Security, and Sustainable Development” is being held in Samarkand on April 20–21 in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

It is worth noting that on April 20, during the opening of the forum, it was announced that the headquarters of the Central Asian Association of Narcologists would be established in the region.
