4582Since October 2023, Russian gas supplies to Uzbekistan have exceeded 5 billion cubic meters, as reported by Interfax, citing Maria Zakharova, the official representative of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Under a two-year contract involving Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, Russian natural gas began transiting through Kazakhstan in 2023, facilitated by Gazprom and UzGasTrade.
Zakharova confirmed that current supply levels have surpassed 5 billion cubic meters. Russian companies like Gazprom and LUKOIL are also actively involved in multiple gas field development projects within Uzbekistan. Both countries aim to progressively expand cooperation in the gas sector, and no challenges are currently hindering bilateral energy progress.
Energy remains a key discussion point in high-level and interdepartmental negotiations.
"The topic was prominent during recent diplomatic exchanges, including the state visit of the Russian President from May 26-28 and the official visit of the Russian Prime Minister to Uzbekistan on September 9-10," Zakharova highlighted.
Energy collaboration holds a significant position in Russian-Uzbek relations, with both countries' foreign affairs departments providing essential political and diplomatic support for ongoing projects.
Earlier reports from Uzbekistan’s Statistics Agency noted that Uzbekistan’s gas imports have surged 5.7 times since the start of the year, alongside a 7.4% rise in gas exports, valued at $404 million.
