An Uzbek citizen has been arrested in the Chelyabinsk region of Russia on charges of bribery. The press service of the regional Investigative Committee confirmed the arrest.

According to the report, the individual is charged under Part 3 of Article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (bribery for the purpose of committing illegal actions). The court sentenced the accused to imprisonment following the charges.

The investigation revealed that on January 1 of this year, the suspect, while at a police station, paid a bribe to a police officer—the deputy head of the Migration Department at the Internal Affairs Department of the Metallurgical District in Chelyabinsk—through an intermediary. The bribe was intended to prevent the officer from bringing the citizen to administrative responsibility for violating migration laws. The officer was involved in an operational law enforcement operation at the time.

Investigative actions are ongoing to gather and solidify evidence for the criminal case.

Earlier, reports indicated that a 21-year-old Uzbek man, who was in Russia illegally, was suspected of raping a 25-year-old woman in St. Petersburg.
