Uzbeks committed the highest number of crimes among migrants in Russia, according to Russian Deputy Interior Minister Vitaly Yakovlev. He made this statement on June 12 at the international conference on “Peace, Sustainable Development and Migration” held in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan.

Yakovlev noted that in the first quarter of this year, 35.5 percent of crimes committed by foreign nationals in Russia were attributed to citizens of Uzbekistan. Citizens of Tajikistan ranked second with 16.6 percent, followed by citizens of Kyrgyzstan with 11.5 percent.

According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the number of crimes committed by foreigners in Russia rose by 15.3 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

“Unfortunately, we are seeing a rise in crimes committed by migrants. In particular, crimes committed by foreigners increased by 15.3 percent. To be specific, foreign nationals committed 12,500 crimes in Russia in the first quarter of this year,” Yakovlev said.

Meanwhile, the number of administrative reports issued against foreign citizens decreased by 1.1 percent during the same period.

It is worth recalling that earlier, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev proposed deporting migrants who, in his words, are of no use to the country.
