A 21-year-old Uzbek man, illegally residing in Russia, is suspected of raping a 25-year-old woman in St. Petersburg, according to a report by Operativnoye Prikritiye.

On January 1, the 25-year-old woman filed a police complaint in the afternoon, stating that an unknown individual had raped her, taking advantage of her vulnerable state. The incident reportedly took place in an apartment on Vladimirsky Prospekt.

Later that day, authorities apprehended the suspect in the village of Novosele, Lomonosovsky District, Leningrad Region. The suspect, identified as a 21-year-old Uzbek citizen, was found to be unregistered in the Russian Federation.

The man has been placed in a special detention center, and authorities are considering the initiation of criminal proceedings.

Previously, a Moscow court sentenced three Uzbek citizens for the rape of a Match TV journalist last summer. Two of the defendants received nine-year prison terms, while the third was sentenced to four years. They will serve their sentences in a general regime colony.
