“Any minister or governor who fails to meet targets has no right to remain complacent” – President

Under current conditions, no minister, governor, or sector head who fails to meet monthly, quarterly, or annual targets has the right to continue working without concern, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a video conference meeting on July 21 dedicated to reviewing results achieved in the first half of the year and plans for the remainder of the year.

During the meeting, the president emphasized that officials presenting reports should not limit themselves to summaries of completed work. Instead, they must clearly explain what new reserves they have identified, what systems they are establishing to utilize them, and what results they expect to achieve by the end of the year. He also stressed that in the current environment of global changes, every leader must work with additional scenarios.

Since the beginning of the year, Uzbekistan’s economy has grown by 8.5%. Growth was recorded at 8% in industry, 16.9% in services, 13.8% in construction, and 4.7% in agriculture.

Investment volume reached $28 billion, while exports amounted to $14.4 billion. International rating agencies Fitch and Moody’s upgraded the country’s sovereign credit rating by one level.

At the same time, the president noted that economic growth of 9–10% is necessary to improve the living standards of the country’s 40 million people.

The meeting also included a critical review of the implementation of six-month plans by regional and sector leaders. It was noted that some regions had failed to fully utilize their potential in terms of gross regional product, construction, and investment indicators.

The president highlighted that amid current global fluctuations, additional funds are being allocated to regions, districts, and cities for entrepreneurship development and social infrastructure projects.

At the same time, he stressed that if the work of each minister and governor does not produce visible improvements in people’s living conditions and does not ease the burden on entrepreneurs, such results will remain nothing more than “figures on paper.”

It was emphasized that under such circumstances, no minister, governor, or sector leader who fails to fulfill monthly, quarterly, or annual targets has the right to continue working without accountability.
