Prosecutor, internal affairs and tax chiefs officially relieved of sector duties

The prosecutor, as well as the heads of internal affairs and tax authorities, will now be relieved of their duties in sectors. This measure is outlined in the Presidential Decree “On Measures to Effectively Organize the Implementation of Priority Tasks to Further Improve the Anti-Corruption System,” signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on April 21.

According to the decree, the functioning of sectors responsible for the integrated socio-economic development of regions will now operate under a new procedure:

- The prosecutor, heads of internal affairs, and tax authorities will no longer serve in sectoral roles;
- Responsibility for sectoral work will instead be assigned to the Deputy Prime Ministers and the Association of Mahallas of Uzbekistan, along with its territorial branches.

The Cabinet of Ministers has been tasked with submitting a draft presidential resolution outlining the new procedure for sector activities within two months.

It is worth recalling that on March 5 of this year, during a meeting of the National Anti-Corruption Council, President Mirziyoyev announced that the sector-based system of regional administration would be abolished.
