Where is the driver detained for criticizing the conditions at the gas stations?

A driver who was sentenced to 15 days of imprisonment after criticizing conditions at gas stations in Tashkent has reportedly been moved to the pre-trial detention center of the Tashkent City Police Department instead of serving his sentence in the designated facility. This claim was made by Abdurahmon Tashanov, a human rights activist and chairman of the "Ezgulik" society.  

Tashanov stated that G.D., who was convicted by the Bektemir District Court, was taken to the Tashkent City Police Department for questioning on December 27. During this time, G.D.'s lawyer was denied access to meet him.  

"Today, we went to the detention center in the 'panelny' with his lawyer, Adham aka. The officer on duty informed us that he is being held at the Tashkent City Police Department. However, as the duty unit was on holiday, we were not allowed to meet with him," Tashanov reported.  

The authorities have not provided a clear explanation for why G.D., sentenced by the court, was taken for questioning or held elsewhere. Currently, three volunteer lawyers have been assigned to defend him.  

In response, QALAMPIR.UZ reached out to the press secretary of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Shohrukh Giyasov. While Giyasov did not confirm or deny G.D.'s relocation to the pre-trial detention center, he stated that detainees could be brought to the Internal Affairs Department for questioning if necessary.  

"Even if someone is detained for 15 days, they could still be a witness or involved in another investigation. In such cases, should we wait until their 15-day term is over?" Giyasov remarked.  

The press secretary emphasized that the questioning of detainees during their imprisonment does not constitute a legal violation, adding that investigative work is confidential and should not be interfered with.  

The incident has raised questions about the treatment of detainees and access to legal counsel during their detention. Further clarification from the authorities is awaited.
