President gifts three-room house to poet Usmon Azim

Yesterday, on November 12, the 75th birthday of Uzbekistan’s People’s Poet Usmon Azim was celebrated on a grand scale at the “San’at Saroyi” complex in Termez, Surkhandarya region. On this occasion, the poet was presented with a three-room house as a gift from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, QALAMPIR.UZ reported.
The jubilee event was attended by the Governor of Surkhandarya region Ulugbek Qosimov, Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan Sirojiddin Sayyid, and a number of other cultural figures.
During the event, the regional leader congratulated the poet on behalf of the people of Surkhandarya, highlighting how his works deeply reflect the beauty of the country, the spirit of the people, and national values. Ulugbek Qosimov and Sirojiddin Sayyid also presented the keys to the three-room house in Termez to Usmon Azim on behalf of the President.
Throughout the celebration, writers, artists, young people, and representatives of the public read excerpts from the poet’s works. In addition, video materials dedicated to the life and work of Usmon Azim were screened.
For reference, People’s Poet Usmon Azim was born on August 13, 1950, in Boysun district of Surkhandarya region. In 1972, he graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Tashkent State University, now known as the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek. He first gained literary recognition in 1979 with his book “Insonni Tushunish.” Subsequently, his poetic collections “Holat” (1979), “Oqibat” (1980), “Kuzgu” (1983), “Surat Parchalari” (1985), “Dars” (1985), “Ikkinchi Aprel” (1987), “Bakhshiyona” (1989), “G’aroib Ajdarho” (1990), “Uygonish Azobi” (1991), “Ghussa” (1994), “Uzun Tun” (1994), “Bor ekan-da, yo’q ekan” (1995), “Saylanma” (1995), and “Kuz” (2001) were published, along with prose collections including “Jodu” (2003), “Adibning Umri” (2010), “So’ngsozlar” (2020), and the hybrid prose-poetry collection “Kollaj” (2018).
Usmon Azim is the author of nearly three thousand poetic works. He received the State Award of Georgia named after Vladimir Mayakovsky in 1982 and was awarded the “Dostlik” Order in 1998. In 2024, he was honored with the international “Alash” literary award of Kazakhstan.
Earlier, poet, translator, and literary scholar Fatih Sulton Yilmaz, who conducts in-depth studies of Turkic literature, published a scholarly book titled “A Devotee of Uzbek Literature: Usmon Azim (Era, Personality, Works)” to mark the 75th anniversary of Usmon Azim, examining the poet’s life and literary contributions.
