Summer is approaching, and hot weather has already arrived in Uzbekistan. Despite the heat and the fact that public transport, especially buses, becomes even warmer inside than the outside temperature, some drivers still refuse to turn on the air conditioners, even though the vehicles are equipped with cooling systems. When will bus air conditioners be turned on in sunny Uzbekistan, particularly in Tashkent? What measures will be taken against drivers who refuse to turn them on? To find answers to these questions, QALAMPIR.UZ contacted Muslima Obidova, press secretary of the chairman of the board of "Toshshahartranskhizmat" JSC.
According to her, air conditioners are generally turned on after the transition to the summer season. However, if the air temperature reaches 26 degrees Celsius and passengers request the air conditioner to be activated, drivers are obliged to comply.
Nevertheless, in many cases, despite the violation of temperature norms inside the buses and passengers suffering from the heat, some drivers ignore the situation. Muslima Obidova emphasized that in such cases, citizens should immediately contact the hotline 1062 of "Toshshahartranskhizmat" JSC.
"The driver will, of course, be subject to action in accordance with the established procedure. However, the procedure may differ depending on the situation. The reason for the violation is determined based on the driver's previous history — whether he has previously broken rules or had disciplinary measures taken against him," the press secretary explained.
For information, it was reported that starting from May 20, 2024, bus fleets were instructed to operate air conditioners from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
It should be recalled that since April 15 of this year, public transport fares in Samarkand have increased. The fare for passengers traveling by bus, electric bus, and trams in the city is now set at 3,000 sums when paid in cash, and 2,000 sums when paid by bank cards or unified transport cards (ATTO).
