Today, February 13, at a videoconference chaired by the President of Uzbekistan and Chairman of the National Olympic Committee Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President emphasized that the sports sector should not be seen merely as games and competitions but as the nation's gene pool.
“We must consider it the most effective tool, the most priority task, to glorify the power and prestige of the country to the whole world,” Mirziyoyev stated.
It was noted that this is the first time such a large meeting has been held in preparation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Over the past four years, the budget allocated to sports has increased from 1.5 trillion soums to 3 trillion soums. Additionally, the average salary of coaches has doubled, 101 large sports facilities have been newly built, and 67 have been reconstructed.
The athletes' achievements in Paris are a bright result of these reforms.
“Most importantly, these results have changed the attitude of young people and parents towards sports. Many of our young people dare to say, ‘I will also become a champion,’” said the head of state.
