A cadastral officer in the Akkurgan district of Tashkent region has been detained for accepting a \$1,200 bribe in exchange for issuing a building permit on illegally occupied land. The State Security Service (SSS) reported the incident.
The cadastral engineer, employed at the Akkurgan district branch of the State Cadastre Chamber, allegedly abused his official position to issue a certificate of ownership for 9 hectares of land that had been illegally seized by a local resident. The document was issued in accordance with the 2024 Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Recognition of Rights to Unauthorized Land Plots and Buildings and Structures Built on Them.” In return, the officer demanded \$1,200 to approve a permit for house construction on the plot.
During an operation conducted jointly by the Tashkent regional department of the State Cadastre Service and the Department of the Interior, the engineer was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 3, Clause “c” of Article 168 (Fraud) and Part 1 of Article 28,211 (Bribery) of the Criminal Code. An investigation is currently underway.
It should be noted that a similar case occurred earlier when the head of the Compulsory Enforcement Bureau in one of Fergana region’s districts was arrested for accepting a bribe while abusing his official authority.
