According to a global survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, China, Russia, and the United States are considered the most threatening countries in the world. The organization recently published the findings.

The results indicate that views on global allies and adversaries have shifted significantly in recent years due to ongoing political changes. Participants from various nations identified Russia, the United States, and China as the greatest threats to global security. Interestingly, while the United States was seen as a threat by some, it was also regarded as the closest ally in many countries.

In the study, Pew Research Center analysts asked respondents which country they viewed as the most important ally and which posed the greatest threat to their national security. While Russia and Ukraine were not included in the surveyed countries, the opinions of 32,000 people across 25 countries were analyzed. The data shows that perceptions of threat often vary based on geographic proximity.

For instance, in 8 out of 10 European countries surveyed, Russia was identified as the primary threat. In Poland, 81 percent of respondents named Russia, followed by 77 percent in Sweden, 59 percent in Germany, and 57 percent in the Netherlands.

In Spain, a NATO member, equal shares of the population viewed both Russia and the United States as threats. In contrast, only 3 percent of Greek respondents saw Russia as the main threat, while a majority (74 percent) considered neighboring Turkey to be the greatest concern.

Meanwhile, countries located near or directly affected by U.S. policies were more likely to perceive the United States as a threat. In Mexico, 68 percent of respondents cited the U.S. as the top threat, followed by 59 percent in Canada, and 24 percent in both Brazil and Argentina.
