The participants of the mass riots in Nukus asked the President for forgiveness

11734Yesterday, on 7 January, a criminal case against 22 defendants was heard in the building of the Bukhara Regional Court in connection with the mass riots in Nukus. Aziz Abidov, press secretary of the Supreme Court, gave information about this.
At the court session, the testimony of Amanbay Orinbayev, chairman of the Dzhokorgi Council of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, was heard. The defendants expressed that they sincerely regret their actions. They also apologized and asked to convey their apologies to the President.
“Amanbay Orinbayev stated that regardless of who the defendants are, they are citizens of Uzbekistan, citizens of Karakalpakstan, and he will certainly deliver their requests, and asked the jury to grant relief to the defendants within the law,” the report says.
It should be recalled that on 28 November this year, the trial in the Bukhara Regional Court began in connection with the criminal case related to the mass riots that took place in the city of Nukus on 1-2 July.
According to the indictment of the preliminary investigation body under 28,104 of the Criminal Code, defendants D. Tajimuratov, L. Kallikhanova, A. Turdanov, A. Smetullayev, D. Jiyemuratov, B. Kadirbergenov, B. Seytniyazov, A. Toqimbetov, K. Seytimov, A. Nuratdinov, S. Medetov, N. Nayipov, P. Shamshetov, R. Bekmuratov, S. Kaipov, B. Genjebayev, S. Kalilayev, P. Nurniyazov, S. Kalimov, N. Sultamuratov, A. Temirkhanov and A. Adilbekov were accused of committing the crimes provided for in Articles 104, 159, 164, 167, 227, 243, 244, 244-1, 247 and 277.
Precautionary measures in the form of “detention”, 1 “house arrest” and 1 “community surety” were applied to 20 defendants.
