12467Polat Shamshetov, head of the Department of Criminal Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Karakalpakstan, is among those accused of taking part in the protests that occurred in Karakalpakstan on 1-2 July this year. He is accused of having committed crimes under Article 244, Part 3 of the Criminal Code.
The crimes committed included using or threatening to use weapons or other objects as weapons, violence against a person, massacre, arson, damage or destruction of property, and resistance to a representative of authority. He is also accused of organizing public disturbances, as well as actively participating in public disturbances.
According to the sanction of this article, the accused will be punished with imprisonment from ten to fifteen years.
It should be noted that the trial of the criminal case against 22 people suspected of participating in the riots that took place in Nukus on 1-2 July began in the Bukhara regional court.
