Uzbeks make up 73 percent of all migrants residing in Russia’s Novosibirsk region. This was announced by Lyudmila Fomenko, Deputy Head of the Novosibirsk Department for Migration, at a press conference held on July 20.

It was reported that Uzbekistan accounts for the largest share of labor migrants in the region. Citizens of Tajikistan rank second, numbering 36,000 people, which constitutes 28 percent of the total foreign population. The fewest migrants in the region come from Kazakhstan.

The number of migrants obtaining Russian citizenship in the Novosibirsk region is also on the rise. According to official data, 36,000 Tajik citizens, 17,000 Kyrgyz, and 14,000 Kazakhs have successfully acquired Russian passports.

Experts note that Novosibirsk is particularly attractive to Uzbek migrants due to the abundance of seasonal job opportunities, especially in the construction, agriculture, and service sectors. The region is known for relatively favorable working conditions and higher wages compared to other parts of Russia, making it a desirable destination for labor migrants.

It should be recalled that earlier, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev reported that since December 1, 2024, approximately 30,000 foreign nationals had been identified attempting to enter Russia using false documents, and entry restrictions were imposed on them.
